53 years of sharing knowledge and experience at Raffles Hotel Singapore

Mr. Leslie Danker is Raffles Hotel Singapore’s longest serving staff, and he has no plans to stop just yet. As the original resident historian, he conducts history tours, gives presentations for corporate groups including notable celebrities, and gives media interviews.

The 86-year-old hopes to contribute for as long as he can. He benefits from the Majulah Package Earn and Save Bonus, an annual Central Provident Fund (CPF) bonus paid out to eligible Singaporeans born in 1973 or earlier who continue to work.

The Earn and Save Bonus provides a boost to Mr. Danker’s retirement savings and supplements his monthly CPF payouts in his silver years. It motivates Mr. Danker to continue contributing his skills and experience in the workplace.

“I would encourage seniors to continue working and contributing to the workforce if they can, to stay mentally and physically engaged. It gives us purpose and keeps us connected.” For Mr. Danker, it was also the flexibility that Raffles Hotel Singapore arranged to create sustainable work models that allows him to balance his personal priorities with work.

Additionally, with the Senior Employment Credit (SEC), Raffles Hotel Singapore continues to benefit from Mr. Danker’s expertise and knowledge while effectively managing manpower costs. The SEC scheme provides wage offsets to employers who hire eligible senior workers.

The Managing Director of Raffles Hotel Singapore, Mr. Christian Westbeld explained: “We place great importance on retaining our senior colleagues in the workforce. By continuing to engage these seasoned professionals, we honour their contributions while ensuring that their knowledge and wisdom are passed on to future generations.”
