S Pass - Cancellation

Cancellation of Pass

The S Pass must be cancelled upon:

Cessation or termination of employment

The S Pass must be cancelled upon cessation or termination of employment.

The levy for the month will be computed till the eve of the cancellation date of the S Pass.

Attainment of Singapore Permanent Residence

S Pass holders who are granted Permanent Residence will have their passes automatically cancelled. There is no need to approach Work Pass Division for cancellation.

Missing S Pass holder

In a case where the S Pass holder has gone missing, the employer must file a police report regarding the missing S Pass holder and inform Work Pass Division to cancel the S Pass. The request for cancellation of S Pass can be done electronically through EP Online.

How to cancel a pass

The employer or an authorised third party (e.g. Employment Agency) acting on behalf of a company can cancel the pass electronically through EP Online.

Cancellation through Employment Pass Online

The S Pass can be cancelled through EP Online, an online portal for selected work pass transactions. The cancellation status is available through Employment Pass Validity Status query page.

A 30-day Short Term Visit Pass will be issued upon cancellation of the S Pass.

Other information

  • Cancellation of Related Passes

    Please note that when the main pass is cancelled or revoked due to levy default, all other work passes linked to the S Pass will be cancelled unless the related pass holder has become a Singapore Permanent Resident. The Dependant's Pass can be cancelled through EP Online. Failure to do so will result in the Dependant's Pass becoming an overstayer.

    The S Pass shall be deemed to be cancelled from the date the employment is terminated. The holder of the S Pass shall not remain in Singapore after the date the employment was terminated unless he is otherwise entitled to remain in Singapore with a valid pass.

  • Singapore Income Tax Clearance

    For Employers
    Employers are required to seek tax clearance when their non-citizen employees ceases employment in Singapore.

    For Employees
    The amount of tax an S Pass holder would have to pay depends on their tax residence and their level of income. Access the website of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) to find out more about their tax obligations.

After cancellation of pass

The employer or an authorised third-party (e.g. Employment Agency) acting on behalf of a company) has to:

  • Print the cancellation acknowledgment letter (if applicable) and Short Term Visit Pass (if applicable) through EP Online. The foreigner has to surrender the Short Term Visit Pass to the Immigration Checkpoint officer at the point of departure, supported with the cancellation acknowledgement letter.
  • Return the S Pass card within seven days from the date of cancellation by mailing it to the Work Pass Division, Ministry of Manpower, 18 Havelock Road Singapore 059764.
