There Are Conditions to Reduction of Maid Levy
- Berita Harian, 25 August 2008

Please refer to Mdm Sarena Shahari's letter, “Mum who has to work wants maid levy to be reduced” (Berita Harian, 13 August).

2. The levy for a Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW) is $265 per month. However, any employer who has a Singaporean child below 12 years is eligible for a concessionary levy rate of $170 per month. Mdm Sarena is therefore eligible for the concessionary levy rate.

3. Mdm Sarena may also apply for the levy concession under the Levy Concession (Persons With Disability) scheme. Any employer or family member who has a disability and requires a full-time caregiver may apply. More information is available at www.disability.org.sg/schemes.

4. Each FDW may only be granted levy concession under one scheme. In addition, CPF savings are primarily intended for one's retirement and cannot be used to pay the FDW levy.

Mum Who Has to Work Wants Maid Levy to be Reduced
- Berita Harian, 13 August 2008

A mother of two, aged 7 and 3 who became a full-time housewife after giving birth to her second child wishes to return to the workforce. She needed a maid but felt that the levy was a bit burdening to her family. Her younger child was categorized as a cerebral palsy child and the medical bill is high despite the subsidy. She asked MOM whether the levy can be reduced and if she could pay it through her CPF.
