Minister Lawrence Wong succeeds Minister Gan Kim Yong as SLF Chairman

  1. As part of regular leadership renewal, Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Health, will step down from the appointment of Chairman of the Singapore Labour Foundation (SLF) Board. Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance, will succeed Mr Gan as SLF Chairman. These changes take effect on 9 June 2018.
  2. Mr Gan was first appointed SLF Chairman on 3 September 2011. During his term, he steered the Foundation to better fulfil its purpose to support the development of the Labour Movement (LM) and enhance the lives of working people in Singapore. SLF restructured its portfolio of financial and strategic investments to sharpen its focus on its core role, diversify risks and streamlined ownership structures. These changes will stand SLF in good stead to serve future generations of workers in Singapore.
  3. SLF also stepped up its funding support to the LM in tandem with the LM’s growing needs, including programmes to benefit lower-wage workers, develop union leaders and scale up industrial relations capabilities. Social enterprises within the LM gained renewed support from SLF to improve their competitiveness and fully realise their social mission.
  4. The Ministry of Manpower would like to express its deep appreciation to Minister Gan Kim Yong for his contributions over the years to the SLF, and for his continued commitment to the Labour Movement.
