Singapore's Manpower Minister to Attend 21st Asean Labour Ministers' Meeting in Hanoi

1. Minister for Manpower Mr Gan Kim Yong will be attending the 21st ASEAN Labour Ministers' Meeting (ALMM) in Hanoi, Vietnam from 23-24 May 2010. The 21st ALMM will focus on the theme "Human Resource for Economic Recovery and Development". Mr Gan will also join the ASEAN Labour Ministers to discuss labour initiatives with their counterparts from the People's Republic of China, Japan and Republic of Korea at the 7th ASEAN Plus Three Labour Ministers Meeting on the same day. He will be accompanied by senior officials from the Manpower Ministry.
2. The biennial ALMMs, together with the Senior Labour Officials Meetings, provide an important regular avenue for labour leaders of the ASEAN countries to discuss labour issues of common interest and to implement joint projects to benefit the region in the areas of employment, human resource management and development.
3. At this year's ALMM, Singapore will share its approach and experiences in dealing with the downturn and the growth strategy Singapore has adopted for the future. The meeting will also discuss projects covering labour conditions, labour sector administration, tripartism, and skills development.
