NOTICE PAPER NO. 1506 OF 2026 FOR THE SITTING ON OR AFTER 4 NOVEMBER
QUESTION NO. 3299 FOR ORAL ANSWER

MP: Ms He Ting Ru

To ask the Acting Minister for Manpower (a) how are the Ministry and the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management applying Tripartite Guidelines to no-reason terminations in light of recent Employment Claims Tribunal decisions; (b) whether the Ministry and the tripartite partners are reviewing the Guidelines or the Employment Act’s wrongful dismissal provisions; and (c) what guidance the Ministry will give employers and employees on giving reasons for dismissal in the meantime.

Answer:

1. The Employment Claims Tribunals case on wrongful dismissal which the Member referred to is currently on appeal before the High Court. As such, it would not be appropriate for MOM to comment on the matter at this juncture.

2. In the meantime, employers should adhere to all relevant employment laws, tripartite guidelines, advisories and standards as well as maintain good HR practices, including ensuring fair processes and proper documentation for their employment decisions.
