Written Answer to PQ on Measures to reduce platform worker traffic accident fatalities and injury support adequacy

To ask the Acting Minister for Manpower regarding the increase in work-related traffic accident fatalities in the first half of 2026 compared with 2025, whether and how the Ministry, together with the Platform Worker Safety Workgroup, will (i) work with platform operators to reduce and prevent such work-related fatalities or injuries and (ii) review the adequacy of income-replacement support for platform workers during recovery from such injuries.

Answer:

The Ministry of Manpower is concerned about the increase in work-related traffic accidents. The Platform Worker Safety Workgroup (PWSW), comprising Government, Labour Movement and platform operator representatives, is developing safeguards to better protect platform workers from workplace injuries. The workgroup will take into account the fatal work-related traffic accidents that have occurred in recent months, and share its findings and recommendations when ready.

2 Since January 2025, the Work Injury Compensation Act mandates that platform workers receive work injury compensation at the same level of coverage as employees. This includes reimbursement for medical expenses, as well as income loss compensation for hospitalisation and medical leave while the injured worker is
recovering.
