Written Answer to PQ on Platform Worker Work Injury Processing Time and Rejection Reasons

NOTICE PAPER 764 OF 2026 FOR A SITTING ON OR AFTER 12 JANUARY 2026
QUESTION NO. 53 FOR WRITTEN ANSWER

MP: Ms Yeo Wan Ling

To ask the Minister for Manpower in 2025 (a) what is the average processing time for work injury compensation claims by platform workers to receive payout compensation; (b) whether the Ministry tracks the reasons for the rejection of such claims; and (c) if so, what are the top three reasons.

Answer:

On average, work injury compensation claims by platform workers are processed within 6 months from the date of incident report submitted to the Ministry. Under the Work Injury Compensation Regulations, upon the processing of the claim and assuming there are no outstanding notices of objection, the designated insurer must pay out any compensation within 21 days.

2 The main reason for rejection of claims in 2025 was that the injury or disease did not arise out of and in the course of platform work. For example, if the worker was injured while running personal errands in between platform work tasks, this would not be deemed a work injury and would hence be ineligible for claims. 1
