NOTICE PAPER NO. 2190 OF 2023 FOR SITTING ON 18 SEPTEMBER 2023
QUESTION NO. 5084 FOR ORAL ANSWER

MP: Mr Gerald Giam Yean Song

To ask the Minister for Manpower since 2019 (a) how many companies have applied to be host companies under the Career Trial (CT) programme; (b) how many have been selected as host companies; (c) what are the main reasons for rejection; (d) how many CT invitations have been sent to job seekers; (e) how many job seekers have commenced the CT; (f) how many were eventually employed after the CT; and (g) how many stayed on the job for at least three months.

Answer:

1. From January 2019 to June 2023, close to 3,000 companies applied to be host companies under the Career Trial programme of which about 2,100 were selected. The main reasons for not being selected were (i) incomplete applications, (ii) lack of response to clarifications, and (iii) poor placement outcomes for previously hosted Career Trial participants. Host companies can decide how they advertise the Career Trial opportunities to jobseekers. WSG does not track whether host companies invite jobseekers to apply for Career Trial.

2. Over the same period, about 3,800 jobseekers commenced Career Trial attachments and 2,500 were employed after their attachment. Of those employed, eight in ten remained in employment after three months.
