File Reference No: MMPW 131/2022
NOTICE PAPER NO. 1240 OF 2022 FOR THE SITTING ON OR AFTER 2 AUGUST 2022
QUESTION NO. 1930 FOR WRITTEN ANSWER

MP: Louis Ng Kok Kwang
To ask the Minister for Manpower (a) whether the Ministry has data on whether companies that offer flexible working arrangements have a higher percentage of female employees; (b) if this data is not available, whether the Ministry intends to collect it; and (c) if not, why not.

Answer
1. Based on the data the Ministry of Manpower collects, companies that offer flexible work arrangements (FWAs) have an equal proportion of male and female employees1. However, the proportion of female employees in a company should not be a deciding factor in whether the company implements FWAs. All workers, male or female, can benefit from FWAs to better manage their work and personal commitments. Companies with FWAs can better attract and retain talent, regardless of gender. Tripartite Partners encourage and support the widespread provision of FWAs at all workplaces, regardless of the gender ratio in companies.
