NOTICE PAPER NO. 799OF 2021 FOR THE SITTING ON 03 NOVEMBER 2021
QUESTION NO. 1288 FOR WRITTEN ANSWER

MP: Assoc Prof Jamus Jerome Lim

To ask the Minister for Manpower in light of existing restrictions on the entry of new migrant domestic workers (MDWs), whether there has been any tracking of employer types and market salaries for the existing pool of MDWs.

Answer

  1. 86% of existing MDWs in Singapore were hired by households with caregiving needs.

  2. As shared in Parliament previously, the average monthly salary of a new MDW hired from overseas was $590 as at the end of 2020. As at September 2021, this was $620. On the average, transfer MDWs are paid about $40 more than new MDWs.
