NOTICE PAPER NO. 244 OF 2021 FOR THE SITTING ON 2 FEBRUARY
QUESTION NO. 621 FOR WRITTEN ANSWER

MP: ASSOC PROF JAMUS JEROME LIM

To ask the Minister for Manpower whether the Government will consider instituting an Alternative Work Schedule (AWS) where employees that work an extra hour every day for a 9-day period will be able to claim the 10th day off.

Answer:

  1. The Employment Act already allows for alternative work hours and arrangements based on the requirements of businesses and the needs of workers. This includes work schedules such as the ones the Member has described.
  2. Notwithstanding this, employers must ensure that their employees have adequate rest and break times, and safeguard their health and safety at all times.
