Changes to Entry Requirements for First-time Foreign Domestic Workers

Mandatory Settling-In Programme to replace English Entry Test from mid-2012

Minister of State for Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin announced changes to the entry requirements for first-time foreign domestic workers (FDWs) at the 2nd FDW Day on 4 December 2011. The English entry test will be replaced with a mandatory Settling-In Programme (SIP), which will better orientate first-time FDWs by equipping them with basic knowledge about living and working in Singapore. The SIP will include modules on adapting to working in an urban environment, conditions of employment as well as responsibilities of FDWs.
