Employment Pass - Cancellation

Cancellation of Pass

The Employment Pass must be cancelled upon:

Cessation or termination of employment

The employer has to cancel the Employment Pass within seven days upon termination of employment. The employer or authorised third party (e.g. Employment Agency) acting on behalf of a company can cancel the pass electronically through EP Online.

Attainment of Singapore Permanent Residence

Employment Pass holders who are granted Permanent Residence will have their passes automatically cancelled. There is no need to approach MOM’s Work Pass Division for cancellation.

Missing Employment Pass holder

In the case where the Employment Pass holder has gone missing, the employer must file a police report regarding the missing pass holder and inform Work Pass Division to cancel the Employment Pass. The request for cancellation of Employment Pass can be done electronically through EP Online.

How to cancel a pass

The employer or authorised third party (e.g. Employment Agency) acting on behalf of a company can cancel the pass electronically through EP Online.

Cancellation through Employment Pass Online

The Employment Pass can be cancelled through EP Online - an online portal for selected work pass transactions. The cancellation status is available through Employment Pass Validity Status query page.

Short Term Visit Pass

A 30-day Short Term Visit Pass will be issued upon cancellation of the Employment Pass.

Other information

  • Cancellation of Other Related Passes
    Please note that when the main pass is cancelled, all other passes related to the Employment Pass will be deemed as cancelled, with the exception that the pass holder has become a Singapore Permanent Resident.

    The Dependant's Pass and/or Long Term Visit Pass can be cancelled through EP Online. Failure to do so will result in the Dependant's Pass and/or Long Term Visit Pass holder becoming an overstayer. If the Dependant's Pass holder is issued with a Letter of Consent or a Work Permit, it will be cancelled automatically.

    The Employment Pass and related pass holders should not remain in Singapore after the date the employment was terminated unless he is otherwise entitled to remain in Singapore with a valid pass.

  • Singapore Income Tax Clearance

    For Employers
    Employers are required to seek tax clearance when their non-citizen employees ceases employment in Singapore.

    Access the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) website to find out more about e-Tax Clearance.

    For Employees
    The amount of tax an Employment Pass holder would have to pay depends on their tax residence and their level of income. Access the IRAS website to find out more about their tax position as a foreigner working in Singapore.

After cancellation of pass

The employer or authorised third party (e.g. Employment Agency) acting on behalf of a company has to:

  • Print the cancellation acknowledgement letter (if applicable) and Short Term Visit Pass (if applicable) through EP Online. The foreigner has to surrender the Short Term Visit Pass to the Immigration Checkpoint officer at the point of departure.
  • Return the Employment Pass or other related passes within seven days from the date of cancellation by:
