Application for Approved Crane Erector

Crane contractors must deploy a team of experienced erectors to carry out each installation, alteration or dismantling of a crane. Each team of erectors shall comprise one or more approved crane erector and sufficient crane assistants to carry out the job safely. You are responsible to ensure that the erection team meets the requirements specified.

The approved crane erector should be responsible for the overall operation. He should ensure that the installation, alteration or dismantling of the crane is in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

The crane assistants should be sufficiently trained in the techniques of slinging and signaling to carry out the work safely and competently.

For the installation or dismantling of a tower crane, an erection team should consist of at least an approved crane erector and five crane assistants.

In the case of a mobile crane, the team should consist of at least an approved crane erector and two crane assistants.

Application Criteria

Any person seeking approval as an approved crane erector shall be trained and shall be competent in the installation, alteration and dismantling of a crane. He should be familiar with the prescribed procedures as specified in the manufacturer's instructions. He must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Above 18 years but below 65 years old.
  • Received sufficient training to ensure his competence in the skills required to carry out the installation and dismantling of a crane (details of training program/course attended to be provided).
    • Attended the brand-specific training conducted or approved by their crane manufacturer.

    • Attended and passed the generic course on tower crane installation, alteration and dismantling conducted by BCAA for application expiring on or after 1 October 2011.

  • Successfully completed the following training courses in an institution acceptable the Commissioner:
    • Lifting Supervisor Safety Course
    • Rigger Course
    • Signalmen Course
  • Minimum of five years' practical experience in the installation and dismantling of the crane.
  • Fit and physically able to handle safely the loads involved in crane erector. Approved crane erectors, who are above 60 years old will be required to have a certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner testifying to his continued fitness to work as a crane erector.
  • Under the employment of an approved crane contractor.

Documents Required

  • Certificate of successful completion on lifting supervisor, rigger and signaler course for each crane erector.
  • Certificate of attendance for brand specific training approved or conducted by manufacturer for all proposed crane erectors for installation, alteration and dismantling of the cranes.
  • Certificate of successful completion of proposed crane erectors for generic course on tower crane installation, alteration and dismantling conducted by BCAA for applications submitted on or after 1 October 2011.
  • Copy of valid work permit (applicable to foreign worker) or employment letter (applicable to Singaporean or Singapore PR).
  • Personal Data Sheet of proposed crane erector detailing their work scope and experience in installation and dismantling of the crane. Please provide the Track Record with minimum of five years of relevant practical experience in installation, alteration and dismantling of cranes.
  • Medical Report Form (For applicant 60 years old and above or if required by the Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health).

To delete approved erector, please submit a letter to MOM to inform of the change in crane personnel.


Important Points

  • Inform the Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health of any changes to the Approved Crane Erectors employed by you. This will include resignation, retirement, etc. The Approved Crane Erector will cease to be an Approved Crane Erector upon reaching the age of 65 years old.
  • Keep and maintain a record of the installation, repair, alteration or dismantling of a crane by each Approved Crane Erector. Such record shall be maintained and made available for inspection, by the Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health or his representative, for a period of five years after the Approved Crane Erector ceased to be Approved Crane Erector for his company.
  • All documents must be submitted in Portable Document Format (PDF) format only.
  • Improper and incomplete applications will be rejected without any prior notice.
