MOM unveils Bicentennial Lego Mural to Commemorate Singapore's Bicentennial on our 54th National Day

  1. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) commemorates Singapore’s Bicentennial with the unveiling of a Bicentennial Lego mural today at the MOM Family’s National Day Observance Ceremony (NDOC).
  2. Staff from MOM, Central Provident Fund Board (CPFB), Workforce Singapore (WSG), together with the Tripartite Alliance Limited (TAL) pieced together the Bicentennial Lego mural to commemorate this milestone year. The activity signifies that everyone has a role to play in nation building. Minister for Manpower, Mrs Josephine Teo, together with the tripartite partners from the labour movement, completed the final pieces of the Bicentennial Lego mural as a symbolic gesture to underscore the importance of Tripartism over the years in the development of Singapore.

  3. In her speech at the event, Mrs Teo thanked tripartite partners who have worked together tirelessly for Singapore’s progress and prosperity.  She said, “The tripartite relationship we see today is built upon mutual trust, and a shared commitment to achieve positive outcomes for all. As we commemorate Singapore’s Bicentennial, we will work hard by ensuring Tripartism continues to deliver for the nation and our people. This will enable our Singaporean workforce to be future-ready to overcome various work challenges in a more demanding era.”

  4.  The line-up of activities at this year’s MOM Family NDOC 2019 kicked off in July where staff pieced together Lego bricks on baseplates to reflect their pride and aspirations for Singapore, and what home means to them. In total, 160 pieces of Lego baseplates formed the mural that was unveiled at the event.
  5. Earlier in the afternoon, Mrs Teo, Minister of State Zaqy Mohamad and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Low Yen Ling joined MOM Family staff for a guided tour of the ReUnion Exhibition held at the National Museum of Singapore. This was followed by the observance ceremony attended by around 300 staff and guests. The NDOC ended with a visit to the Bicentennial Experience exhibition by staff and tripartite partners.
