Minister's attendance at G20 Labour and Employment Ministerial Meeting in Bad Neuenahr, Germany

  1. Minister for Manpower Lim Swee Say attended the G20 Labour and Employment Ministerial Meeting (LEMM) in Bad Neuenahr, Germany from 18-19 May 2017.
  2. The G20 LEMM focused on the theme “Towards an Inclusive Future – Shaping the World of Work”. The meeting discussed how efforts in areas such as the promotion of innovation create job opportunities and boost employment, and contribute to achieving the G20’s common goal of strong, sustainable and balanced growth.
  3. Minister Lim delivered two key interventions while in Bad Neuenahr.
    1. In his first intervention on shaping the future of work, Minister Lim made three points: (1) technology is the key driver of future of work, (2) being adaptable will be the key skill of the future and, (3) innovation can strengthen the inclusiveness of the workforce. Minister Lim also emphasised the need for tripartite partners to work closely together to strive for better jobs and careers for all.
    2. Minister Lim’s second intervention spoke about Singapore’s support for women in three key areas: (1) raising adoption of flexible work arrangement and job sharing opportunities to support working women, (2) helping women stay employable through learning new skills and being adaptable, and (3) strengthening HR practices for fair and progressive treatment of all workers regardless of gender.
  4. Minister Lim also met his G20 counterparts to exchange views as well as learn from the experiences in their countries.
