Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Finance and Manpower, Tharman Shanmugaratnam to chair the September meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee and attend G20 Meetings

  1. Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Finance and Manpower, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, will be in Washington, DC from 22 to 25 September 2011 for meetings of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), the G20 Finance Ministers and related roundtables. The meetings will discuss the co-ordinated actions required to address the challenges of tackling weakening economic growth while ensuring credible, medium-term fiscal consolidation plans. In light of the risks facing the global economy, the IMFC will explore the means through which the Fund can support efforts in accelerating recovery, including through its work on financing and surveillance in the next 6 to 12 months. DPM Tharman will also have meetings with several of his counterparts.
  2. From Washington, DPM Tharman will travel to Paris, France to participate in the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting from 26 to 27 September 2011. The meeting will discuss concerns in the area of labour and employment, such as job creation, employment policies for youth and other vulnerable workers, as well as international and national policy coordination.
  3. DPM Tharman will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Manpower and Monetary Authority of Singapore.
