Written Answer to PQ on Improvements on dormitory food storage and drop-off points

NOTICE PAPER NO. 2599 OF 2024 FOR THE SITTING ON OR AFTER 27 FEB 2024
QUESTION NO. 5538 FOR WRITTEN ANSWER

MP: Mr Louis Ng Kok Kwang

To ask the Minister for Manpower other than ensuring that food storage points are adequate and sheltered, what other improvements have the Ministry’s inspectors required dormitory operators to make with regard to food storage and drop-off points for food for migrant workers.

Answer:

1. Under the Foreign Employee Dormitories Act (FEDA), dormitory operators must take reasonable measures to ensure that food delivered is protected from contamination until collected by residents. Based on feedback from MOM and residents, improvements introduced by some dormitory operators include the installation of properly secured shelves, the use of insulated storage containers, and enhancements to the food collection processes. We encourage dormitory operators to continue looking into ways to improve the food storage and collection situations in their respective dormitories.
