To ask the Minister for Manpower (a) whether cases of employees being terminated with notice are included in the definition of redundancies in the redundancy data published in the Ministry's Labour Market Survey; (b) if not, what is the Ministry's estimate of the number of employees who have been made redundant by way of termination with notice in 2013-2015; and (c) what percentage of employees made redundant in 2013-2015 in the Ministry's published data have been made so as a result of publicly announced retrenchment exercises by employers.

Answer

  1. Redundancy data collected from MOM’s Labour Market Survey include employees terminated with notice. The data includes all retrenchment exercises regardless of whether they were announced publicly by employers.
