What leave arrangements apply for an employee who is absent from work due to unexpected reasons (e.g. tested COVID-19 positive) while traveling abroad?

Employees who are physically well should be allowed to work remotely if they are able to do so.

For employees who are unable to work remotely, refer to the guidelines below:

You should provide additional paid leave to cover the period of travel-related absence for both vaccinated and unvaccinated employees.

For medically eligible but unvaccinated employees who have to be quarantined in other countries, the additional days can be taken from existing leave entitlements.

If your employees have used up their leave entitlements, you may require them to go on no-pay leave.

Personal reasons Employees who are unwell should use their existing leave entitlements for the period of absence.
