How do I pay my retail employees who perform overtime work according to PWM requirements?

The retail PWM requirements do not state a specific overtime (OT) rate of pay, but rather the gross wage requirements for each additional OT hour worked. This safeguards the interests of full-time employees when they put in overtime hours.

Your retail assistant worked for 10 OT hours in September 2023.

You will need to ensure that:

1. The gross wages paid to the employee which can include basic wages, allowances, incentives, and overtime pay, minimally at the applicable gross wage requirement of $2,109 as of September 2023

2. You comply with the Employment Act’s Part IV requirement, where the OT rate of pay is at least 1.5 times the basic rate of pay.

Refer to the applicable gross wage requirements and a worked example on how to meet the requirements.
