**Deepavali will be on 26 October 2011 as previously announced. 

^In accordance with Section 35 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Polling Day is a public holiday. As per public holidays falling on a Saturday, under the Employment Act, employees not required to work on that day are entitled to one day off in lieu or be given one day's pay.

^^In accordance with Section 17 of the Presidential Elections Act, Polling Day is a public holiday. As per public holidays falling on a Saturday, under the Employment Act, employees not required to work on that day are entitled to one day off in lieu or be given one day's pay.

Payment for work done on a public holiday

 The Ministry would like to inform all employers that under the Employment Act, an employee who is required to work on a public holiday is entitled to an extra day's salary at the basic rate of pay, in addition to the gross rate of pay for that holiday. The employer and employee may mutually agree to substitute a public holiday for any other day.
