Hygiene Monitoring
The Workplace Safety and Health (General Provisions) Regulations requires regular workplace monitoring in factories where toxic substances are used or emitted. Workplace monitoring reveals workers' levels of health hazard exposure and aids in the assessment of possible health risks. It also helps to gauge the effectiveness and adequacy of hazard control measures.
Regular noise monitoring (at least once every three years) is also required for factories where 10 or more persons are exposed to excessive noise, under Workplace Safety and Health (Noise) Regulations. Monitoring of such hazards must be done by a competent person.
Management support is essential to the successful implementation of a surveillance programme. The results of workplace monitoring should be evaluated and the necessary measures taken, to safeguard worker health. Employees should also be informed of the results, which should be recorded.
