Pre-start assessment

Employers should conduct assessment prior to the commencement of works. This is to ensure proper communication of risk and control measures to the workers and proper coordination of works.

Who does it apply to:

All companies in the following sectors:

  • Construction
  • Manufacturing
  • Marine
  • Process
  • Transportation and storage

Daily toolbox meetings Show

Should be conducted:

  • Prior to commencement of any works
  • When there is a change in shift

Purpose

To inform all workers of:

  • the potential hazards
  • the control measures being put in place to safeguard their safety and health
  • the precautions needed

Supervisors can also share lessons from recent accidents through WSH Alerts published by the WSH Council during the toolbox meetings.

Weekly coordination meetings Show

Purpose

To ensure there is proper planning and coordination of works between trades and contractors.

Discussions during coordination meetings should include:

  • Implementation of control measures
  • Resolution of incompatible works
  • Assessments of potential hazards associated with contractors working in close proximity

Information and instructions following coordination meetings should be shared with all supervisors and workers.
