Report on Wages in Singapore, 2009 and Singapore Yearbook of Manpower Statistics, 2010

  1. A large majority of employees in Singapore were working in establishments that have adopted some form of flexible wage system. Due to the difficult economic conditions, loss-making and less profitable establishments cut wages, while more profitable establishments gave small wage increases in 2009. This flexible and performance-based wage system has helped businesses cope with the recession.
  2. These are some of the findings from the 'Report on Wages in Singapore, 2009' published by the Ministry of Manpower's Research and Statistics Department. The 300-page Report presents information on wages of over 400 occupations, changes in wages and bonuses paid in various industries, as well as information on the extent to which employers have restructured their wage systems. The key findings are summarised in the Annex.
  3. The department has also published the 'Singapore Yearbook of Manpower Statistics, 2010', which provides a wide range of statistics on the labour market situation. These include key data on the labour force, job vacancies, wages, redundancies, labour turnover, hours worked, conditions of employment, labour relations, workplace injuries, higher education and skills training.
  4. The information provided in the two publications can help job seekers, employers and employees make better informed decisions on career and human resource matters. It also enables analysts to gain a better understanding of the Singapore labour market.
  5. The two annual statistical publications are available for download at the Ministry of Manpower's website.
