Implementing Work-Life Strategies for higher productivity the focus at fifth Work-Life Conference

26 August 2010

  1. The Work-Life Conference 2010 brings together about 500 employers, union and government representatives, for a plenary session and a series of workshops over one day. This year’s Conference, with the theme “Work-Life Strategy for Higher Productivity and Better Quality of Life”, will focus on implementation: how to effectively put in place and manage Work-Life programmes that would serve as a key competitive advantage to attract, motivate and retain employees. Participants will get to learn from and network with prominent Work-Life champions and HR practitioners. Speakers will also share with participants how they have put in place effective Work-Life strategies, that have resulted in win-win outcomes for the business and employees.
  2. The keynote speaker for this year’s Conference is Dr. Ellen Ernst Kossek, University Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University and Associate Director of the Centre for Work, Family Health and Stress. Dr. Kossek has authored many research reports and books on the issue of Work-Life Integration and the various benefits that organisations and individuals can reap from these programmes. She will share with Conference participants on the relevance of Work-Life Strategy as a tool to manage an increasingly diverse talent pool with different ways of managing their Work-Life needs, as well as offer ideas on creating a flexible and results-oriented work place.
  3. For the first time, Conference participants will also have the opportunity to participate in Work-Life clinics helmed by experienced Work-Life consultants. Through the clinics, participants can learn more about the different aspects of Work-Life and effective ways to implement these strategies for their organisations.
  4. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Manpower and Health, Mr Hawazi Daipi, said: “Effective Work-Life programmes can be an important measure to help organisations improve productivity and enhance quality of life for employees. Given the changing needs of a diverse and multi-generational workforce, such programmes could also help to attract and retain valued employees and talent.”
  5. The Work-Life Conference is followed by the biennial Work-Life Excellence Award ceremony, which will be held on 27 August (Friday) at Resorts World Sentosa. 70 organisations will be recognised for the successful implementation of progressive Work-Life strategies. Two individuals will also be receiving awards for their outstanding leadership in integrating Work-Life Harmony in the workplace.
