The Work Injury Compensation Act replaces the Workmen's Compensation Act from 1 April 2008.

The coverage and benefits under the Work Injury Compensation Act are applicable to accidents that happened on and after 1 April 2008. For accidents that happened before 1 April 2008, the coverage and benefits under the Workmen's Compensation Act will continue to apply.

The Act provides employees an alternative recourse to claim compensation for work injury (other than through civil courts).

Employees who suffered injuries or died in a work-related accident can make a claim.

Compensation is payable when an employee is injured or died in a work-related accident.

These include medical leave wages, medical expenses and compensation for permanent incapacity or death, if any

Employers are required to purchase insurance unless the requirement is waived.

MOM must first be notified of the accident/occupational disease via iReport.

The medical assessment by the Medical Board is final.

The Workmen's Compensation (Amendment) Act extends work injury compensation to most employees and with increased compensation limits.
