How can I qualify for the Work Holiday Programme (WHP)? You must be a full-time student or graduate from a university in one of the following locations: Australia France Germany Hong Kong Japan New Zealand The United Kingdom The United States
You may also apply if you have gained admission to the university but have not commenced your studies. All applicants must be between 17 and 30 years of age.
I am not a citizen of one of the eight locations on the list, but I am a full time university student studying in one of the locations. Do I qualify for the WHP?
Yes, you will qualify as long as you are a full time student or recent graduate from a university from one of the locations on the list.
Why is the WHP open to only eight locations? We are introducing the Work Holiday Programme as a pilot scheme, starting with these eight locations. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will review the scheme over time and make changes if necessary, including to the list of locations allowed.
How do I know if my university is approved under the WHP? Your university must be in the list of institutions, drawn up based on the authoritative sources in Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Can I work on the WHP? Are there any employment restrictions?
You may work on the WHP for a period not exceeding six months. You will not be restricted to only specific types of work. However, existing licensing, registration or accreditation requirements e.g. medicine, law, architecture etc will apply.
What other requirements are there for the WHP?
You need to be able to support yourself financially during your time in Singapore. As part of the Work Holiday application process, we will require you to declare that you have sufficient funds for your stay, maintenance, and departure. Must I secure employment before I apply for the Work Holiday Pass?
No, you do not need find a job before you apply for the Work Holiday Pass.
How long can I stay in Singapore under the WHP?
You can stay and work for up to six months on the Work Holiday Programme.
How can I extend my stay on the WHP?
You cannot extend your stay here on the Work Holiday Programme. However, you may apply to switch to one of the work passes offered by MOM. Find out more about MOM's work passes. Are there restrictions on re-application for the Work Holiday Programme?
Yes. You are allowed to re-apply for the Work Holiday Programme only after 12 months from the expiry of your last Work Holiday Pass.
When can I start applying for the Work Holiday Programme?
You can start applying for the WHP from 1 December 2007.
How can I apply for the WHP?
The subject of your e-mail should read “Application for WHP”.
What documents must I submit with my application?
You must attach a letter from your University/College confirming that you have been accepted as a student in the University/College. The letter should include your name, nationality, gender and date of birth. If you are a graduate, a copy of your degree certificate or transcripts must be submitted.
For non-English degree certificates/transcripts/letter from the University/College on your student status, you must submit a copy of the original as well as the official English translation certified by the University/College. In addition, you must attach a copy of your passport particulars page showing your name, date of birth, gender and photograph. These soft copy documents, to be attached for submission along with your application form, must be in image files in JPEG format ('jpg' extension). You should restrict the file size of the degree certificate or transcripts and passport particulars page to 150KB and 100KB respectively. Please also ensure that the images are clear. How long will the processing of the application take? How will I be informed of the outcome?
WHP applications will be processed in 21 days. An e-mail will be sent to you to inform you of the outcome of your application. What are the fees involved in applying for the Work Holiday Programme? A fee of S$40 will be charged for successful applications, payable to the Ministry of Manpower upon collection of the Work Holiday Pass. Where applicable, a fee of S$20 is also chargeable for a single or multiple journey visa. You may also require a visa to enter Singapore. I have received an In-Principle Approval (IPA) for the Work Holiday Pass. What should I do next? You would need to visit the Work Pass Division at MOM - 18 Havelock Road, Singapore 059764 to collect your Work Holiday Pass. Your IPA must be valid at the point of collection of the Work Holiday Pass. (Note: The IPA is valid for three months from the date of the letter.) In addition, please bring along the following documents for submission when you collect your Work Holiday Pass: · Travel Document (with at least two blank visa pages); · Valid IPA letter and declaration form; . Work Holiday Programme Employment Survey Form; and · Proof of return in the form of a /an air/rail/ferry/coach ticket. The date on the tickets should not be later than the expiry of your pass. Am I required to undergo any medical examination before collecting my Work Holiday Pass? No. You will, however, be required to make a health declaration before being issued the Work Holiday Pass. I intend to travel outside Singapore while on the Work Holiday Programme, do I need to inform MOM or cancel my Work Holiday Pass? The Disembarkation/ Embarkation (Green) Card and the multiple journey visa (if applicable) issued to you along with your Work Holiday Pass allows you to make multiple entries and exits from Singapore during your six month stay. I am departing Singapore after my Work Holiday stay, do I need to follow any procedures? Yes. You are required to return the Disembarkation/ Embarkation (Green) Card at the immigration checkpoint before you exit Singapore.
