The Manpower Research and Statistics Department of the Ministry of Manpower conducts surveys to collect national statistics. The statistics help the Government to review and formulate manpower policies and programmes to secure a better future for Singapore. Key national statistics on the labour market, e.g. employment, unemployment, job vacancies, redundancy are also published to facilitate informed decision-making by the community-at-large.

Surveys are conducted under the Statistics Act, which requires all selected persons and establishments to furnish the necessary information. At the same time, the Act safeguards the confidentiality of information furnished by respondents, by requiring that the information be used only for the purpose of compiling aggregate statistics.

Selected respondents are notified by post.
