MOM’s Response to Media Queries on the SMRT Situation

  1. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) was informed about the SMRT situation involving its PRC Service Leaders or bus drivers this morning. MOM’s labour relations officers were on site at the Woodlands dormitory to work with the two parties on the issues concerned.
  2. Talks between SMRT management and the workers started this afternoon and just concluded this evening. MOM facilitated the two parties to come together to address the issues. During the talks, MOM reminded parties involved to resolve the issue amicably.
  3. MOM takes the workers' actions very seriously. There are appropriate grievance handling processes in place, and workers are advised to speak to their HR and management to discuss and resolve any employment-related issues amicably, rather than take matters into their own hands.
  4. MOM is closely monitoring the situation and looking into the matter.
