Legal Services Department
Mission
The mission of the Legal Services Department (LSD) is to ensure compliance with manpower legislation workplace through effective regulation, thereby enabling equitable manpower practices, greater opportunity and economic security for all Singaporeans.
Vision
The Vision of the department is to forge partnerships, empower people and champion justice.
Function
The primary function of the department is to prosecute offenders of the legislation within the purview of the Ministry. These include the Employment of Foreign Workers Act, the Immigration Act, the Factories Act, the Workplace Health and Safety Act, Employment Act, the Workmen's Compensation Act and the Employment Agencies Act.
The department also renders advice to all other departments of the Ministry on a wide range of legal issues, playing an active role in the Ministry's internal review of policies and business processes.
LSD also assists in reviewing, drafting and vetting legislation administered by the Ministry. In addition, they render advice for the drafting and vetting of contracts, tender documents, memoranda of understanding and license agreements involving the Ministry.
As Assistant Commissioners for Labour under the Workmen's Compensation Act, the directors and some of the Prosecuting Officers adopt a quasi-judicial role in adjudicating disputes relating to claims under Act.
